EDUCATION IN OUR COUNTRY

Education is one of the crucial elements in our lives. Without education, we as a human are meaningless and we cant improve our lives. Based on the Oxford dictionary, education means the process of educating or being educated. In our country, education can be classified into three major factors which are consisting of primary, secondary and tertiary level of education. Primary level is for standard one to six, secondary for form one to five and tertiary is for diploma and above. Although our country had been producing a number of qualities student and achieve many awards in education sector, however, there are several problems that still poses threat to the system that our country have. Essentially, these problems seems to arise in the secondary level of education system in Malaysia as there are several current issues that involving secondary level which had becoming one of most discussed issues in our country.

Secondary education in Malaysia is conducted in secondary schools (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan) for five years which starting from form one until form five. Generally, national secondary school use Malay language as the main medium of instruction. However, the government has changed their policy regarding our education system in Malaysia which teaching Science and Mathematic would be done in English language. The reason of why the government carried such action is to ensure Malaysian produce student are not left behind and competitive with the others. Nevertheless, the policy was heavily criticized especially by the Malay linguist and activist, fearing that the policy might erode the usage of Malay language in science and mathematics, which had led to several of rally in Kuala Lumpur around March 2009. The major problem regarding this issue is to the student themselves as they are the one who faced this implementation carried by the government. The action taken by the government was carried out suddenly with any preparation for the teacher and the student to adapt with the changing. Some teacher find themselves at the difficulty to teach their student in English language. As an example a Science teacher, they have to revise their syllabus and studied it in English in order to teach their student. For student, they been taught Science and Mathematic in Malays since they was at the primary school, after the drastic action of the government, some of the student have difficulty to adapt with the government action.

Recently, our local mass medias has highlighted about students who have achieve with flying color which scored 21 A’s in the Sijil Pernilaian Malaysia (SPM). There are massive number of students who have been reported by the mass media about their achievement. These publicities made by the Medias had influence the other student both positive and negative side but more to the negative side. On July 2008, Regent of Perak, Raja Nazrin Shah said that “getting a string of A's is meaningless if students fail to understand, appreciate and practice good values, and describing that excellent results as mere external appearance, there would be uneven development of human capital if students failed to inculcate good morals”. It is MEANINGLESS if nowadays student takes as much as subject that they can just to get A’s in the examination if they failed to understand the true meaning of the education and their morality is not develop together with their education performance. Meaning that people with good moral values always hold firm to life principles especially in defending truth and justice in which students also should be taught not to lie or rely on leaked examination papers just to obtain higher grades.

In our country, the type of school that is existed since today is the vernacular which is a school that use Malay language as the medium of teaching in the particular school. Due to this it is afraid of the racial polarization occur in the school. Racial polarization have already been prevalent in the Malaysian education system whereas students grouping together according to their race. In this context, it is concerned if this kind of problem and whole student from all kind of races including Chinese, Malay and Indian not interacting enough with each other. Although many measures have been taken in order to prevent this problem, these student fro different usually only mixed with their own kind.

Tuition centre had become prevalence in urban areas of Malaysia and it had been growing rapidly recently. Generally, student from urban area would enroll the tuition centre which due to heavy pressure by their parent to do well as their parent can not cope with the standard education provided by the government. Tuition centre is known as an expensive service and the student from the low class of society who could not afford to go tuition centre would certainly being left and alienated which this is unfair to them. The other problems regarding this tuition centre are most of the tuition centres usually offer “crash course” which is a leaked questions that obtained by unscrupulous means. This is serious problem and the government should take immediate action to cope with this problem to avoid producing low standard of student.

To sum up, although many action taken by the government to improve the education system in our country, there still problem occur and it tells that the system that is already practice in our country still have many sector to be improved and enhanced in order to produce first-class students with superb morality.

During Ramadan, my friend and I are have “buka puasa” at Padang which located at Masjid Besar Kuantan. During that time, there were bazaar Ramadan next to the Padang where we bought our dishes like Ayam Percik, Nasi Goreng, coconut jelly, and a lot. There, we sat at the Padang and wait for magrib azan as signal for berbuka time!!. One of us perform a doa before we eat. Everyone eat their meal hungrily..hehe..like zombie. During we were eating, the people there was playing “mercun” and “bunga api”. It was a very beautiful scenery and I think it would be the last time we’re having “berbuka” time together as we are at the last semester in our college.

When I was in semester three, I went to Terengganu for the 2nd time with my friend Wancai to visit Teha at Paka, Terengganu. “Bas Sehat” is our main transportation to Paka at that time as we do not have time to buy tickets. Later on, we arrived at Kemaman nearly at 6.30 pm and Teha’s farther came to pick us up as Paka was quite far from Kemaman. Then, we arrived at Teha’s house, I’m so happy because this is my first time being at her house. There are a lot of cat’s at her house especially kittens. After that, Teha’s parent invite me and Wancai to go to open house. The food was very delicious..Uuummmm…yummyyyy..( everything was fine but not the nasi dagang..its taste sweet..which I don’t like..).

Next morning, we went to Kuala Terengganu with her parent . First, we go to MYDIN (the biggest MYDIN store in Malaysia(maybe), and Sembahyang Jumaat at Masjid Putih. During this time, there were strange and funny incident happen, her father’s slipper were stolen, so me and Wancai go walk around the town to buy new slipper for her father. As a reward, her father treats me with “cendol”…

Next day, we went to Big Din house at Bukit Payong to have lunch which is nasi ayam. It was a very delicious meal ever. After that, we went to Masjid Kristal and Pantai Batu Buruk, I was so happy and tired as I was driving all the day. That’s all byeeee.

KL PAC!!

OK..i know this is a bit out-dated but i realy2 want to tell you all about the trip that i have been follow in the English Language Club. First of all, this is a picture of me taken last semester at Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Center (KLPAC). This picture is taken y an anonymous person which i believe a foreigner that are attending the KL PAC to see the theater entitled "Air Con".
Air Con is a coming of age play, exploring friendship, love, education, religion, race, homosexuality, society and identity. This theater serious issues but presented in such way that we can realy relate to. The play was set in a boys school where they have the softies (the pondan) who were the victims as always, the macho guys who and just like in movies, there are often the bullies and victims. Nobody told me that Air Con was an X-rated play. The excessive usage of dirty words (which made it a one hell of a hilarious play) was still bearable. Okay fine it was enjoyable but the duration of extremely physical scenes like tranny prostitute and schoolboy scene, schoolboy and schoolboy scene. Apart from that, everything else was *showing two thumbs up*. That all for a short review for the play which i find it very good play full with hilarious scene (i never stop laughing from start to end). About the picture next is a band of boys that were starring in the play which from left "Burn" (Zahril Adzim) , "Chep" (Amerul Affendi), "William" (Nick Davis), "Mona" Hazarul Hasnani), "Asif" (Ryan Lee), and lastly"Mimi" (firdaus Che Yahya).

A scene from "Asylum" theater at Taman Budaya

Yesterday, i was watching a theater entitled "assylum" at Taman Budaya, Kuala Lumpur with my friends from the English Language Club (ELS). We woke up early at 6.30 am to get ready as we have been told that the bus would depart at 8.00am. Then, we arrive at Kuala Lumpur nearly at 1.30pm at KLCC. There, our adviser let us to go roaming as the theater started at 9 pm. So, i went to Berjaya Times square to go shopping (although i personally does not really into it). i bought a new shoes!!!..ehehe..one shoes only k..not like other people..buy a lot of thing. So..to simplify the story, at 6pm we go to KLCC back to rendezvous with others. Nearly 7.30 we finally arrived at Taman Budaya, although a our first impression, the place was quite dull, empty and pathetic, but the thing was different. So, we solat and do whatsoever thing such as eat, later on we sat in a room to watch the theater. The theater is about a group of mentally-illness people at a mental hospital that is going to perform a short theater for the new patient. All and all, the theater was very impressive and funny. I hope i can go to Taman Budaya again to watch these theater again in the future..
